Steve Clement's journey is a testament to the power of hard work, ambition, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. Born and raised in the picturesque farmlands of Pike County, Illinois, Steve's foundation in the trades was laid early. His father, a skilled plasterer, introduced him to the craft. From the fifth grade Steve spent his weekends and summers honing his skills alongside his father while also helping on the family farm.

After graduating, Steve accepted an opportunity to work abroad in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. There, he applied his plastering skills for Kite Inc., an Indianapolis-based contractor, gaining invaluable international experience and broadening his horizons in both his trade and cultural understanding.

Upon returning to the United States, Steve joined the Operative Plasterers'; and Cement Masons'; International Association (OPCMIA) union in Quincy, Illinois. His dedication and leadership skills, enhanced by his international experience, quickly set him apart. Following a union merger, Steve was elected as an officer of Local 18, marking the beginning of his ascent in union leadership.

In his personal life, Steve married the love of his life, Jill Frazier, and together they raised two children: Jack, now a police officer in Springfield, Illinois, and Madelyn, who pursued education in the dental field in Springfield, Oregon. Life presented challenges when Jill was diagnosed with dementia at 50, requiring full-time care – a situation Steve has faced with strength and compassion.

Steve's career reached new heights in 2006 when he was elected Business Manager of Local 18. In 2014, his expertise and global perspective contributed to his election as an International Vice President of the OPCMIA, a position he continues to hold with distinction.

Throughout his career, Steve has successfully managed multi-million dollar projects both domestically and
internationally. Prior to his current position, he represented over 800 employees and the interests of 200 retired persons across 45 counties in Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. His experience working on varied business projects, including international opportunities, has deepened his appreciation for different cultures and his advocacy for workplace diversity.

Steve's commitment to community service is evident in his roles as a trustee at the Douglas United Methodist Church in Springfield and his active membership in eight building trades councils across Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. His philanthropic efforts include participation in Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Dad's for Diabetes, and numerous other community organizations.

"I appreciate different cultures and advocate for diversity in the workplace," Steve shared."It is crucial to driving innovation and understanding the importance of respecting the contribution of others in a growing global environment." His expertise led him to serve on the Western Illinois Business Board and assist in numerous community and civic projects to better the state of Illinois.

While Steve takes great pride in his professional achievements, he considers his family to be his greatest
accomplishment. His life philosophy, shaped by his close family and local roots, centers on giving back whenever possible – a principle that has guided both his professional and personal life.

As he looks towards the future, Steve expresses gratitude to the Schultz Foundation for allowing him the
opportunity to help others in such a meaningful way. His journey from Pike County to encompassing global
relations has equipped him with a unique perspective and a wealth of experience that he continues to apply in service to others and in the betterment of society as a whole. Steve firmly believes that advancing counseling resources is vital to the health and well-being of all of Illinois.
